I wait a few moments and then get up and slowly head for the room's exit, relieved to have quietly extricated myself from that situation.  Look around more and see a youth room and wonder what kinds of videos they are shown.  Finally end up at the main desk and meet William* who has worked there for a few years.

I introduce myself,  giving my real name and where I'm from.  Hand him some "Free Meal" passes for the Providence Rescue Mission for distribution however he might wish to and he kindly gives me a tour of the offices.  He has seen a lot in his time there and we discuss experiences we have had.  I tell him I plan to visit now and then and say good by.

Back out on the street I walk in the direction of my car.  There are two people up ahead and one of them looks familiar despite all the winter clothes on, some of which partly covers the man's face.  They don't look at me.  I cross the street and then, on an impulse, cross back and hand them each a free meal pass.  The man looks right at me and says "Ray!  How are you doing?"  It is John*, a man I led to Christ several months before.  I say "John*!" and give him a big hug right there on that forlorn empty street. "It's so good to see you!" I say.

We talk briefly and then the woman with him reads the free meal pass and asks if I have any more.  She knows many people at the Place who could use them so I give her a bunch.  We talk for a brief time and then I leave to return to my car.  There is a police ticket on the windshield for "parking in an illegal zone".  I check the street sign next to the car: it clearly says parking is allowed there during daytime hours.  I decide, then and there, to pay it rather than go through the hassle of a court appearance.  The ticket is for 15.00 dollars; parking in a garage would have cost about 6 dollars.  I have begin the process of becoming acclimated to the city.
