(part 2 of 2 - continued) |
The trip lasted 12 days. We
visited Bridgeport, CT; New York City, 2 stops in New Jersey; 1 stop each in
Philadelphia and Washington, DC. During that time we spoke with many
men, prayed with many, spoke about God's great love, played the harmonica,
and heard many testimonies of changed lives.
|
On the trip we met:
- men in recovery freed from addiction by the
love and forgiveness of God.
- men who had been set free - relapsed - and
finally free at last.
- Men reconciled to their families after years
of separation.
- A women who had a disease cured by the power
of God.
- Many men looking for meaning in their lives.
- Jim VarnHagen from the New York City Rescue
Mission who opened up his home to two tired travelers in a van. What
a blessing he and his wife were.
- A volunteer at a Mission who didn't fully
understand the tract I was passing out to those who wanted them.
- A man living in a limo (automobile) in
Atlantic City who received a Gospel tract and immediately said "Praise
God" when receiving it. "Blessed are
you who are poor, for yours is the kingdom of God. Blessed are you
who hunger now, for you will be satisfied."
<Luke 6:20-21>
- A man who wanted to understand the difference
between a Gospel Rescue Mission and a homeless shelter.
- An evangelist I had never met before who
looked right at me in a Mission lunch line in New Jersey and said "The
harvest is plentiful . . ." My reaction was to almost cry as I
thought of the churches full of people who don't understand (and live out)
that simple sentence fragment from the books of Matthew 9:37 and Luke 10:2
in the New Testament of the Bible.
- A man I didn't know stood next to me in a
cashier's double line in a public restaurant waiting to pay his dinner
bill. He noticed my shirt with its small Promise Keeper's logo.
He started to talk to me about the only Promise Keeper's Conference he had
ever attended 6 years before. He said, since then, he had lived a
life on the road far from God. He was immediately overcome by the power of
the Living God, all goose bumps and speechless. Then, in public, in
that line, I explained the call Jesus Christ was
right then
placing on Dave's life. That he had a decision to make. And,
that he knew it. "Will you follow Jesus Christ or will you say no to
him and just walk away again?"
