You definitely won't see the words "Local

Great session
this afternoon! Just read on a different web site that it wasn't rideable
today. Wrong!
It went from messy waist high at 1:00 PM to chest and then to shoulder
then to head high plus (sets) at sunset. Bombs away! Excellent
3 hour session! Clean rights late. Long rides. Perfect. Nice swell
at the end. Not sure if this one will last until tomorrow but we'll
see. |

Possible waves
Saturday. Been a bit of a drought lately. |

Thursday
PM |
Nice little 3
hour session at the haus today. Temps in the 50's, sunny and some
knee to shoulder hi. Very few people out there - kinda reminded me
of a spring session. Decent. Fun. Good to get wet today. |

Saturday 7:00 AM |
"Call of the
month" goes to Sven N. and the RISK kayak surfers who said the wind would
drop today so that the New England gathering could be held as planned in
Little Compton. Well done Sven. |
11.30.2006
Thursday Noon |
Big wind on
the doorstep and it's hard to predict rideable waves. At the moment
it looks 50-50 as to whether it will be rideable Fri/Sat. With this kind
of forecast in the past I've seen it windswept and unrideable and I've
also seen the wind slack off (despite the marine predictions) and some
nice sessions develop. On this one I'm - watching and waiting, like you.
Best guess: 60% chance of rideables. Mostly a wind storm.
Be careful out there. |
11.23.06
Thursday
AAM |
Looks like the
forward motion of the current storm has sped up over what was predicted
originally so we may see a shorter time for waves. Happy
Thanksgiving! |
11.21.06
Tuesday
AM |
Advance
forecast of a big Thanksgiving storm lasting several days! Looks
impressive at the moment. Time will tell. It's about time to
leave the 3/2 behind, dust off the dry suit and upgrade my hole-y boots
and gloves in anticipation of the winter season upon us now. |
11.18.06
Saturday PM |
Surfed maybe 3
1/2 hours today in average waves at the Haus and vicinity, Lots of
bodies out there but there wasn't a defined break so most were pretty well
spread out. OK session. Going flat for a few days at least. |
11.17.06
Friday
3:10 PM |
Waves are
mushy and not that good. I hung in there for a while but it wasn't
worth getting wet. Optimism in forecasting will only take you so
far! |
11.16.06
Thursday
10 PM |
Big wind at
the moment is southerly with 30K gusts. The ocean remains stirred up
and we're watching and waiting to see how this storm plays out. I'm
optimistic. Also, at the moment we're weighing the possibility of
moving some video to
RIRiders.
It's an issue of "available time" but it hasn't been ruled out yet.
A complete rework of the QuietWaters side of this domain has been in the
works for a year now - also an issue of time available. Oi veh! |
11.14.06
Tuesday PM |
Been on the
road for 24 hours - taking some much needed time off from work.
Way up there and clean yesterday afternoon and this morning it
was smaller but with an occasional decent set. Been surfing my
brains out since yesterday noon and the stoke is ongoing. For some reason
there was no one out there this AM. Eventually there were 3 of us
divvying up and choosing the choicest morsels! The stoke was so good that
it carried over to off-water: last night in Home Depot in Westerly had a
conversation with Dave Prescott about carpentry. Found out he had
surfed that AM and was Vice Chairman of SurfRider Foundation (RI).
Cool. |

Friday
PM
Supersession |
Early morning
was big and occasionally closing but as the day went on it cleaned up and
set waves were Big, Meaty and Fast. Spent some of the morning shooting
film and have got the goods. I'm just blown away by how good it was.
Had 2 waves in particular at the Haus which seemed like at least a solid
double up but who knows? I just remember trying to get the speed to get
down the wave and getting sucked higher up as the wall formed down the
line. Then that release and the fast diagonal down with the old fly
on the wall feeling. Whoa momma. Did you have fun too? I'll
bet you did, especially if you were on a short board. Overall I'd
call it solid head high on average.
Yesterday was different - different break and it took almost 40
minutes before I was able to catch the first wave. Unfortunately
that first wave was a close out and I got thumped, just like the
Republicans! Boom, bam, bing and ouch. After that it went better but
today was the class of the waves. Excellent super-session. |
11.07.06
Tuesday
AM |
Looks good in
48 hours. I've been working non-stop lately and haven't had a whole
lot of time to get wet. I hope to and soon! |
10.28.06
Saturday
PM |
Seas are
currently 17 feet every 11 seconds but winds are 30K and building!
Plus, it's after dark. Will we see rideables out of this storm?
Time will tell - I certainly hope so! |
10.21.06
Saturday PM |
I'm on the
road for a bit so no updates during that time. Short term we're into
a NW air flow so it's a good time to be on the road! |
10.18.06
Wednesday |
Fairly small
but rideable with a few guys out on a nice 70 degree day fall day.
Disorganized around 10 AM but it cleaned up after a short time. Good
to get wet for a change as I've been working a lot of hours recently.

Tuesday
AM |
Prognosticator
was running around the house with his frisbee last night. It was,
like, "Mon, look out de window!" I did. Nada. Then I looked at
the Intel - whoa. Possible in 24 hours or so. |
10.13.06
Friday
AM |
We had
forecast "flat" for today yet a buoy early this morning was 5.9' at 9
seconds! Soooo, we fired up trusty van way before sun rise and drove to
the water. It was immediately clear that the forecast was right and
whatever was out there certainly wasn't getting into shore. Hung
around for maybe a half hour but it stayed almost flat with an occasional
"barely knee hi" trailing in. Oh well. |
10.03.06
Tuesday
AM |
Had a nice
little 3 hour session on the 1st of October but haven't had the chance to
post it until now. Wind and rain slacked off and about a dozen of us
had a few hours of waist to shoulder in semi glass! Sun set was
spectacular with the sun lighting up the edges of dark clouds like gold
foil. Bonus situation! |
09.25.06
Monday
PMGood
session! |
Saturday was
not happening; Sunday was worse; then came Monday. It was goin' off this
morning at the Haus. Dial-amatic surf from waist to head high easy.
About 9:30 AM the place cleared out as the early morning crowd left and a
short time later it started goin' off! Couldn't
believe I had it all to myself for a short time and then Bobby paddled out
to get his share. Occasional really nice long rides mixed in with
waist high breaking in close. It took a while for my 09.20 optimism to be
rewarded but today was de day! Hoot. |
09.20.06
Wednesday AM |
It was
unrideable yesterday although I saw a few out there trying! The 11
second period still wasn't getting in to RI. This morning the period
has increased so there should be occasional waves for a few days. I
saw one brief NOAA report that was optimistic but the day shift yesterday
AM removed all references to the "S" word. After Labor Day the hype
diminishes as the summer boaters vanish. My optimism remains
unchanged.
PM update: Sets are rideable and infrequent - got in maybe 2
hours worth this afternoon. As many as 20 guys out there but not
enough waves to go around. The "zone" changes with each set so just stake
out a position and wait for your turn! |
09.18.06
Monday
AM |
The Atlantic
is stirred up due to a low south of RI as well as several hurricanes. The
offshore buoys are showing a wave period of 11 seconds which is definitely
healthy. Looks like we'll have small surf for the indefinite future
- at least until "Helene" gets closer to New England. Forecast is an
increasingly
optimistic one for the next week. 12 year old Surf Prognosticator
was up early this morning, did one 360 degree turn and stood on his hind
legs for a better look at the incoming when his breakfast was served.
We're pumped here at surf central! |
 |
09.15.06
Friday
AM |
Looks like
buoy 44025 came back on line yesterday so that leaves 44017 still down
until October (update: 17 is back up again). You know, I think most surf sessions boil down to one
or two waves in the memory banks after a few days have gone by. For me it
was 1 wave on Wednesday when a long wave topped the horizon and I sprinted
left and out to get away from the closeout side to the right. Just
got to the center of the wave and had a late drop with that "fly on a
wall" feeling . . . dropping, dropping but not in danger of getting eaten!
Sometimes the best waves are the ones you think you're inside on. That was
a really nice wall and long ride. Thanks to its Creator! |
09.13.06
Wednesday AM |
Drove around
Tuesday morning and finally hit paydirt at Tunces. Solid waves mixed in
with closeouts. Sets were really up there - occasional 1 and 1/2. The lot
was full with cars going down the road. I found an unoccupied right with a
rare left and had it all to myself for a few hours. Couldn't believe it. A
Super Session until the tide got unfavorable. I see it still going
off this AM! Great googliemooglie. |
09.11.06
Monday noon |
Windy, choppy,
not a whole lot going on as of noon time. South side was rideable early
until the wind shift from NW to SE. Predawn patrol got in maybe 2 hours in
occasional waist hi before the wind shift. |
09.10.06
Sunday PM |
Knee to waist.
Choppy but rideable this afternoon. 18 were out at one small break. I was
content to watch today. |
09.03.06
Sunday
PM |
It was going
off today!!! In the water this afternoon for 5 hours at 2 different breaks
in waist to overhead (sets). Half the State of RI was in the water
today but the crowds were unusually cool - no hot heads in the water as
far as we could see. I counted around 70 people in the water at one
location. What a session! Dog tired tonight; how about you? Wind
went light SW late and the waves cleaned up. There were some really
great clean drops at the second break. Whew. Over and out! |
09.02.06
Saturday
10:30 AM |
Out watching
the waves between 7 and 9 AM this morning and it's not worth getting wet.
Fairly small, occasional thigh hi, and windy. Anyone out there
selling "I surfed Ernesto" bumper stickers is not going to be making much
$ today . . . |
09.01.06
Friday
AM |
Several buoys
are down but all you have to do is put your head out the window and smell
the salt air! Remnants of Ernesto are on our doorstep. Quiet at the moment
but that will change . . . |
08.29.06
Tuesday
Noon |
Yesterday was
glassy and knee to chest high in the morning. The wind switched to
NE just as the waves were getting larger so it was a tough go with the
cross chop. Looks like some small waves out there again today. |
08.23.06
Wednesday
AM |
Completely
flat for a few days and tropical storm Debbie has formed. Haven't been in
the water since that 4 hour chest high session around the 14th after the
overnight wind. Didn't have the opportunity to post here. We're cutting
firewood and waiting to see if Debbie curves away from the coast and goes
way out to sea or . . .? |
08.06.06
Sunday
PM
(Posted 08.07 AM) |
Checked out
the haus about 12:30 PM and ended up surfing boat wakes (not that bad!) as
there were a lot of boats out there. I was told the AM waves were
better. Good to get wet. Not much power so most waves were "mushing out".
Forecast for this AM (Monday) changed overnight and was downgraded.
I've seen this before - where 1st shift and 2nd shift disagree.
Looks like 2nd shift (3 AM) at NOAA was correct. |
07.25.06
Tuesday AM |
Nice little
session yesterday at the Haus in diminishing surf. Missed the main
swell due to work but the residual was OK! Looks like it will
go flat over the next few days unless another tropical depression should
suddenly appear. As far as RI surfers are concerned, tropical storm
Beryl was not a "depression"! |
07.20.06
Thursday AM & PM |
Tropical storm
Beryl is on our doorstep; 60 mph and going in closest to the Massachusetts
coast. It's overcast and wind is Easterly at the moment. Looks like
the biggest surf will be in the overnight hours tonight. Be careful
out there my friends.
PM update: It's waist to rare head high + and a lot of people out.
Saw a few friends in the line up and the 2 hour session was good. Really
clean at times. |

Yesterday
there was a definite SW to South swell that held up until noon and then
faded. With the cam not working it was actually quite enjoyable
because there were no "attitudes" out there. The buoys didn't really
indicate a swell and there weren't a whole lot of people out! A rare
RIRiders
salute to the cam meister! Suggest you make this a regular policy.
Got in a solid 4 hours in a nice session that reminded me of the Southwest
hurricane swells (although a lot smaller). All current intel
suggests it is going to be really hot for a few days and quite flat for a
spell. |
07.14.06
Friday
AM |
Had a
nice little session at 2 different breaks on Wednesday. Good to get
some exercise for a change. Basically it was waist every 5 minutes.
There was a slight SE swell but you had to be patient. That has been
the case for a week now. Looking forward to that head hi plus in a
month or so. On the road this AM. |
07.10.06
Monday
AM |
Fairly quiet
at the moment. Back off the road and retuning to the forecasts and
possibilities. Best guess: an occasional rideable boat wake now and then .
. . PM UPDATE: nice little knee hi+ in the PM. Small but
rideable - fun session |
07.01.06
Saturday
AM |
Been on the
road for the last 8 days and going back on the road for another period of
time. Looks like we've had some waves here and there. Saw a
whole lot of kayaks and canoes in the north country - rivers are running
huge right now. Happened to see a big fireworks display while going
down the highway last night. I love Independence day
USA.
Happy 4th of July from
our house to yours! |
06.22.06
Thursday
PM |
I'm on the
road for a week or so, so, no updates here for a little while.
Forecast:
There was, are, or will be waves which were, are, or will be very small,
medium or large which you will miss or ride due to work or vacation or
skipping work, usually. That's a wrap, for now. Mostly. |
06.20.06
Tuesday
Noon |
It was
very foggy and flat early but at mid morning became rideable with an
occasional waist hi. Small summer surf conditions starting to go
flat again at noon. Got wet for about 2 hours - no one else out for
most of that time. |
06.15.06
Friday
PM |
Surfed a few
times recently - mostly small. Late yesterday afternoon a few waves
showed up and they continued into this morning. Caught a few hours
worth at the haus while Manny changed my front windshield in the van (it
was cracked). Insurance paid 100% (but the insurance sure ain't free, is
it?). Laid back summer crowd today! Russ and Bobby were out there. |
06.09.06
Friday
AM |
Nice little
knee to waist with a rare shoulder hi yesterday (Thursday) morning. The
lineup was a mix of winter and summer riders. Took off the lobstah
claw mitts for the first time as the water and air are warming up but it's
still "3/2 and boots" weather! There isn't anything big on the horizon so
I continue to look for that solid knee high whenever it shows up. |
06.06.06
Tuesday
AM |
Quiet at the
moment. This last Saturday got out at Tunces with Big Bob and
maybe a dozen others but it was really small, technical surf at best. We
talked briefly about the demise of Fast Freddie from Craaaanston and
perhaps holding a funeral for him even though he, like Elvis, has been
rumored to have been seen at various locations both there and on "the
Hill". The off shore waves Saturday weren't really getting in.
Wind currently going NE but there is a good probability that we won't
get any rideables out of it. Time will tell. |
05.27.06
Saturday
PM |
Nice little
South swell today. The rides were fairly long at times at the Haus with
sets at head high. Very foggy early AM - had to wait until it
lifted a bit. Wore the 3/2 today for the first time. Just
about everyone still has gloves on. Good session. |
05.25.06
Thursday
AM |
Well, it has
been an interesting few weeks. Desktop machine sputtered and then
finally died a quiet death one morning. Looks like a RAM chip
failure. It has taken a little while to get up and running with a new
machine but . . . we're back! There have been several water
sessions in the last two weeks of constant rain and wind storms. Had a
few barrels here and there and watched others too. You know who
you are. Flat now and warming up for the weekend. Been seeing lots
of rubber_legs riding out there but that's normal with the seasonal
transition. Transitioning to my 3/2 "soon". It is definitely good
to get rid of the cold water hood. Big A-Men on that one! |
05.02.06
Tuesday
PM |
Today was
finally the day - some nice occasional solid head high and mostly chest
hi down the line. Excellent 4 hour session. Some spots are getting
a bit crowded - counted 17 at one small popular location today.
T's was working and the best wall was the right. A normally unexciting
break was goin' off. Biggest was early with the swell showing signs of
slowing down a bit by noon time. Our group turned into a hoot session
and the vibe was good. Hope you got some! |
05.01.06
Monday 9:00 AM |
I'm still
underwhelmed by the waves. Drove around this AM just before the
wind picked up and there were a few guys out but I passed to do some
other stuff. Occasional waist and rides not that long. The swell, so
far, is really not getting into shore. I still expect that to
change . . . |
|
04.28.06
Friday AM
 |
Interesting
. . . wind has gone NE and is (currently) predicted to be that way
through Tuesday. Rain is on the way. In these parts we call that a
Nor'Easterner and we have some understanding of the implications of
that! The Surf Prognosticator had a restless night last night. Dreams of
dog biscuits or something else? We'll know "soon". |

Goin' off
yesterday morning! Surfed 2 breaks and eventually it glassed off as the
swell dropped. Matt (in the straw hat) takes the early lead in the
transition from full rubber to swim trunks. Dave was out there and
saw Vic in the parking lot just before leaving. Nice session yesterday! |
04.22.06
Saturday PM |
We have an
Easterly system that should send rideables "real soon now" and it looks
good for a few days. Avoid the wind in the near term! At 2:00 PM
today it was mostly flat. That should change. |
04.15.06
Saturday
AM |
Yesterday morning was marginal for getting wet - fairly small - but
southside wasn't too bad. Little peaks that were occasionally
rideable. Waves were 1-3' so just ride the 3 footers! Water
is amazingly clear this time of year.
Time for the annual "No
RubbahKook" contest. First
one to spot someone out there with no wet or dry suit gets one free
"that's my wave" pass when Dr. Surf is about to make his move!
With water temps in the 40's and air temps occasionally in the 70's you
know some part timer is going to make a bad move and soon. |

Opinion
|
There seem
to be several trends the last few years related to weather forecasting.
For example - if the weather is simply
overcast
then "the possibility
of showers" is often
predicted also
- like today.
In marine weather forecasting, when the wind is SW and there are small
craft warnings the forecast is often
4' - 6' waves
(a decent chance of rideable
waves) when, in the past, the forecast would have been the more accurate
3' - 4' waves
indicating "not really rideable wind blown junk". Have the regular
weather forecasters and the NOAA marine weather forecasters laid off the
men who understood accuracy in forecasting? From where I sit, it looks
like the forecasts has become so inclusive, general and pre-emptive to
criticism that forecasts are often
useless.
On the other hand, it keeps
RIRiders
in business because we tell it like it is. For example, today you might
potentially break out the wax if it's after 2:00 PM and the wave period
increases by another 3 seconds. Otherwise, don't. In any
event, it's the season of the remembrance of the Last Supper Jesus had
with his disciples (often referred to as "Maundy Thursday" because the
Latin word "Mandatum" means "mandate", or "commandment"). The
commandment? Quote: "A
new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you
must love one another. By this all men will know that you are my
disciples, if you love one another."
Jesus . . . John

Saturday PM
Excellente! |
All points,
reefs and breaks today in some solid waves. The haus was half full
early and there were bodies wall to wall. No thanks. Surfed
another nearby break with no one out! Woo Hoo! When the wind
finally came up went in and ended up at another break that was too good
to mention here! Rain was fairly constant at the end and there were lots
of locals out. Excellent session. |
04.08.06
Saturday

Been flat
for a while and today shows rain and small craft warnings posted with
(so far) short period waves. Little drive around this AM just for the
fun of it. |
04.04.06
Tuesday AM |
The storm
track / speed has changed and, with it, the probability of waves.
I don't see anything out there to get excited about at the moment.
|
04.02.06
Sunday
PM |
Nice little
waves but it looks like the best stuff was very early this AM before the
wind came up. At 4:00 PM wind was fairly strong from the NW so it
was a challenge to ride. Wet about 2 hours and had fun in mostly
chest hi. Sets at nearby breaks were larger at times. Good
to get some exercise. |
04.01.06
Saturday
2:20 PM |

Flat, flat, flat. Did a drive around, had a burger, drove around
again. Still flat. |

Daylight
savings time is upon us (this Saturday night), temps. in the mid-60's,
daffodils are up and blooming and the peepers (frogs) in the swamp are

yeah, could be some wind waves the next few daze. |

Monday
PM |
Swell was
working all today. Got in the water around 5:00 PM - tide was
really high and breaking really close in. Waves were super fast
at times but rideable. Surfed until dark.
Just want to extend a Tip of the ole
RIRiders
hat to the group of 5 short boarders at the haus tonight. They saw
me go outside and grab a medium sized fast wave and any one of them had
the skill to pick that wave off on my inside but they didn't! They
let the old guy ride it in. I always did like the local RI winter
short boarders.
They rule. |

Monday
AM
Excellente! |
Last night
it was GOIN' OFF! Surfed the haus for a while in the afternoon but there
were a lot of close outs. It was a case of surfing about half way
in, popping out early and then digging to avoid the crush from the
follow on sets. Surprisingly, there were very few people out
there. Went to another break and surfed into sun set. Late
afternoon was classic:
semi glass, super clean with occasional set waves at overhead on takeoff
and maybe shoulder hi down the line. WO WO. It was 6' but there
was a lot of power due to the 13 second wave period. I notice the
cam is turned off this AM. There's an excellent reason. |

Wednesday
PM(Posted
03.15 AM) |
Yesterday
had an appointment in Narragansett cancelled so drove by the **** at
10:15 and, my goodness, what to my wondering eyes should appear but some
shoulder hi stuff and an empty parking lot! Got into the water
although it was really choppy at first and almost unrideable. As
time went on it got better and ended up surfing 3 different breaks until
3:00 PM. Good session - really tired. Minor sun burn.

Thinking of
doing a little drive around at noon. Wind predicted to go strong
west which means another bout with late winter is on the way. |
03.11.06
Saturday
The
drought
is over |
On the road
at 5:15 AM and in the water at sun rise. SW swell with an outgoing
tide made for squirrelly waves at times but, you know, there were WAVES!
It got bigger around 8:00 and there were some serious set waves at
times. I counted about 30 boards at one point - it would have been
seriously overcrowded but the lack of a consistent zone had everyone
spread out. Good thing. Lots of shaky legs out there as well as a
few locals who were taking the drop deep and getting the job done. That
was an excellent session if you took the right wave. I guess that about
describes any head high+ day doesn't it?
Stoke is back and I ain't the only one. That 1 barrel made
the day! |
03.10.06
Friday
8:00 AM |
Did an early
drive around and checked out the breaks. Basically wind driven
unrideable mush. It would be great to get wet soon - time will tell. Got
an email from "da Cat" - this AM; looks like the surf drought has
reached Craaaaanston! |
03.08.06
Wednesday
AM |
Well, what's
there to talk about? How about: almost 12 hours "sun up" time now;
daylight savings starts in 3 weeks; advance forecast of a 60 degree day
coming Sunday. Hang in there compadres, spring is on the way!
Olay! Speaking circumspectly, who knows, we might even see some waves
some time before summer. |
|
03.04.04 |
Winter surf
season cancelled.
Rumor central is closed. Surf prognosticator is seeing a shrink.
Dr. Surf has retired. Forget it. I'm outa here. Can
you say "YMCA Pool"? |
03.02.06
Thursday
AM |
It remains
flat as a lake. One more week of this and we will consider
officially canceling the winter surf season. I surfed once in February
and have not been in the water for 28 consecutive days.
ARRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGG.
There. Still don't feel better. I need waves. You? |

Flat, flat,
flat. February was a tough month for rideable surf. We're in an
extended period of surf drought. I checked out getting a membership at
either Riverbend or the YMCA in Wakefield. Need some exercise! Oi
veh! Hopeful that March will be better although, historically, February
is usually better. We shall see. |

Did a drive

Thought there was an outside possibility of waves before the wind
increases later this AM but no go.

All
points, reefs and breaks this morning at sun up! Ripley's Believe
it or not: I had a certain break all to myself for at least an hour and
a half. Wo wo! On a Saturday with no wind? Occasional
nice set wave with that straight down take off feeling. Good session
Bro. Thanks to everyone who slept in this morning from those who
didn't! |

At the
moment this particular ocean storm looks like it will pass too far south
of us and get wound up too far out to sea to give us any significant
surf. |

Going to do
a little drive around this AM just in case . . .
S to SE swell.
In the water just before 8:00 AM in some waist high at first but within
an hour it started going off! Sunny, no wind and a glassy surface
made for some really sweet winter surfing. There were some clean,
head high+ set waves for a while. It was a great 3 1/2 hour session. The
low sun coming through the upper half of the green water made for some
beautiful looking surf. Perfect session. |

All points,
reefs and breaks were goin' off this morning early! It was heavy at
times! In the water late at 8:00 AM in occasional overhead+. Waves
were thick and meaty without much shoulder so you had to take the drop .
. . to ride, Clyde. Had a few hand in the wall rides and the tonight the
stoke is no joke, bloke. It was an excellent session, that's the
confession. Had one break all alone for about 45 minutes. Woooo! |

Looks like
some waves in the near future after the wind dies down. Right now
that South wind is howling and it's 53 (F). Not too bad for
January! |

PM |
Just before
dawn there were a lot of cars driving up to check the waves, sitting for
a few minutes and then leaving. It was really small but, still, I
eventually got dressed. Mostly knee to waist hi at first. In about
an hour things picked up and several sections were working. South was
occasional head high and f a s t! Wet 3+ hours. Good
session. |

In the water
before sun up and surfed 3 hours. Wind was blowing fairly strong
but there was a dedicated group of locals up to the challenge. <posted

Interesting
current marine forecast with wind gusts up to 55K for tomorrow night.
In the winter that prediction is called "very windy"; in the summer time
the media hype would be such that Home Depot would be sold out of
plywood! Looks like we've got a Rhode Island Nor'easterner coming
but not a classic one - the classic ones last 3 days. Who knows -
perhaps we'll get some waves at some point. |

Friday |
There are
waves but the strong NW wind is a disincentive. Gusts to 30K are not
helpful! The dawn patrol doesn't roll this AM.
However, this afternoon was something else! Got in the water
about 2:00 PM and it was goin' off! Very windy at first but as it
got closer to sun set the wind died down, there was a great sun set and
surfed that head high super clean right into darkness. Stoked
tonight! |

Just might
do a little drive by. Expectations are low but you never know.
PM:
Surf was rideable but took a while to clean up. Mostly waist to shoulder
with a few exceptions. Good to get about 3 hours worth of
exercise! Looks like it will go flat at least through the end of the
week. |

It's just
about flat. Surf Dawg had a restless night but it turned out to be
indigestion, not approaching waves. Thinking of going to see that
Narnia movie - heard it was excellent. May you have a very Merry
Christmas - from our house to yours - may the peace of the Living God be
in your hearts. |

PMExcellent
session |
It has been
goin' off the last 2 days! Surfed 3 different breaks today in
variable conditions ranging from 1 1/2 to chest hi - depending on the
break. Some sets were "way up there" in a very nice RI swell on a
nice sunny Saturday day. There are a whole lot of people who are
stoked tonight! Water is starting to get cold now . . . Got
some film but no time to post it now. Will get to it "soon".
OK!

Wednesday AM |
Flat at the
moment. With a local temperature of 7degrees (F) this morning, we
have officially transitioned over to "Heavy Rubbah" weather. Water is
cooling down now but still not too bad from a RI point of view. Looks
like we have some weather on the way in a few days. Do you think it's
time to replace those "lobsta claw" gloves you have - the ones with a
hole in them? You'll soon be glad you did! |

Nice little
"solid waist high" in the PM on the down side of yesterday's waves.
In the water for a few hours as the wind steadily picked up from the
west. Average surf but it was good to get wet. Kinda crowded
today . . . Good to see a few of the RI locals out there. |

Nice, super
clean chest hi sets this morning in bee_ooo_tiful Rhode Island! 3
Hours. Backside was working - deep takeoff - under the small peak
- nice little wall - threading the needle - Bro. Waves got smaller
at the end. Cool session. Half dozen of us out there. Good vibes.
Happy December! |
