John 3:16

Sept. 11, 2001

Only be careful, and watch yourselves closely so that you do not forget the things your eyes have seen or let them slip from your heart as long as you live.
Deuteronomy 4:9

Did you know that both the RI State Flag and State Seal have an "Anchor" and the word "Hope" in them?  These two items come from the Holy Bible in the Book of Hebrews, chapter 6, verse 19 where it says "We have this hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure." The "hope" and "anchor" are one and the same:
 The Lord Jesus Christ.

- 2009 Surf Reports -

You may have surfed today but the experience isn't complete until you find out how good it was by reading about it here. :-) You definitely won't see the words "Local Knowledge: We don't have any" at this domain. We live here and surf here.

Surf Dawg Rumor Central

If you don't see any updates for a while then there's probably no surf :-(
or, it's one and a half, and I'm on the road until it dies out

Unadvertised special

I could just smell surf in the air yesterday afternoon so got the van loaded up with gear and set off this (Saturday) morning on a hunt for waves at 6:20 AM.  Almost no one put at the Light and the break looked like a hurricane swell - not that big but definitely a South break paralleling the South Side. Sets were a solid head high and definite chest high for the rest.  Early on it was all glass and later the wind picked up from the NE chopping things out a bit. Nice 3+ hour session!
08.21.2009    On the road . . . 13 hrs wet in 2 days with Hurricane Bill.  Tropical Storm Daniel yielded some nice waves too!

Saw E. (a local) sleeping on the lawn at the Light and figured "something's up"!  "Friday?" Saw a quiet nod before he went back to sleep. Looks like it's time to fire up the site here after a quiet summer.  I remember 1 big event but I was working in in NH and missed it completely.  Been a while since I took a drop on a decent sized wave.  You too?  That may change depending on the direction Mr. Bill takes.  The speculation is already beginning.  Me? No comment yet.

Sunday PM
Been away for a 2 week trip to much warmer water, climate and Reggae Music Mon.  Nice little waves yesterday afternoon (in Rhode Island) in a 3 hour session.  Lots of new faces out there with people sitting inside on the sets making for an interesting outside drop. Nevertheless it was a good session.  I'm looking forward to ditching the winter gear as I hear the 3/2 whinnying in the closet "Let me out of here!" Not quite yet! I can almost image just a bathing suit and stick but we're way too early for that call!

Last afternoon's session provided some challenging waves in a continuing disorganized swell that just keeps lingering on. No set zone with big sets coming out of nowhere and that "uh-oh" feeling in the stomach when you know you're inside and without a prayer!  Other times you're too far to the side in deference to the last set that creamed you.  Yet, you get the occasional wave that keeps rising up as you try to get down the face and it finally releases you for a great wall and big face. Patience and care will get results. Looks like today will wrap it up.

Note:  with upcoming weekend weather predicted near 80 and water temps in the 40's it seems like the perfect time for the annual "No RubbahKook" contest. If you spot a soaker out there turning blue without any rubbahsuit on then let me know.  A free "You can have my wave" pass from Dr. Surf is the prize for the first description mailed in to me.  As always, let me know the details and we'll post it here!

Friday morning it was a little disorganized early but as the morning went on it was a replay of yesterday except that it was cleaner.  Some really big sets every 10 minutes and lots of medium ones in between.  Nice swell.  Excellent session. Had one 1/3(?) of a mile long ride - about the longest ever - from outside pilgrim to inside conant in a large wave that had a frosting top but never closed out. Still stoked!

Supersession

Left home before dawn and got wet at Tunces a little later in a 3 1/2 hour session.  Not that big at first but an hour later it started going off! Nice juicy meat balls in the finest sense of Italian cuisine.  Big rights that were fast but clean and some nice walls on the sets. About a dozen guys in my group with - you guessed it - people sharing waves - obviously these are winter surfers!  What an excellent late winter session.  At the end I got wacked by a close out - dropping backwards in a classic case of going to sleep out there.  Oh well, it was worth it!

Therapeutic

Arrived at the Light at 8 AM and got wet.  Excellent to be out there: nice little swell, sunny, almost glassy at times with light offshores and above freezing temperature.  Waves were all over the place but rideable with a few nice rides.  Jacking up on takeoff and shoulder down the line.  Got smaller near noon.  Good session!

Did the dawn patrol and surfed 3 breaks.  Finally settled in at the light in a diminishing swell that was about waist high.  Earlier was better.  4 hour session!  This Tuesday morning the swell has returned so off to da beach I go!

Flat at the moment.  Looking forward to the stoke restarting in January.  Not that I'm a fan of frozen toes or that sort of thing but once the water temp drops into the 30s there sure is a whole lot more elbow room out there.  I see that RISK has an open 3 week window going on for an expression session in LC in January. That's good!
