John 3:16

Sept. 11, 2001

Only be careful, and watch yourselves closely so that you do not forget the things your eyes have seen or let them slip from your heart as long as you live.
Deuteronomy 4:9

Did you know that both the RI State Flag and State Seal have an "Anchor" and the word "Hope" in them?  These two items come from the Holy Bible in the Book of Hebrews, chapter 6, verse 19 where it says "We have this hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure." The "hope" and "anchor" are one and the same:
 The Lord Jesus Christ.

The Streak is Over . . .10/14/2001

Well, all good things have to come to an end some time and today was the day.  Was riding a nice long shoulder high left at a well traveled surf break when I stayed with the end of the wave a few seconds too long and it closed out.  Instead of falling into the face or making a quick turn in the direction of the shore I got lazy and the wave knocked me over in the direction of the shore.

Ended up upside down with one hand on the paddle, completely confused, and low on air.  Let go of the paddle to do a hand roll and failed.  Tried again and missed again.  Then bailed out.  It was ugly.  Realized I had been partially sucked out of the boat when the wave hit and my center of gravity had been too high to execute the hand roll properly.

The last time I exited from my decked kayak was November of 1995 when the shoulder dislocated.  So, the streak of 5 years and 11 months and about 5,000 waves  is over.

Gotta get some air into those front air bags and relearn how to reenter a boat full of water while in the surf zone but that's about all the bad news I care to discuss this evening!

The new streak starts today.
