John 3:16

Sept. 11, 2001

Only be careful, and watch yourselves closely so that you do not forget the things your eyes have seen or let them slip from your heart as long as you live.
Deuteronomy 4:9

Did you know that both the RI State Flag and State Seal have an "Anchor" and the word "Hope" in them?  These two items come from the Holy Bible in the Book of Hebrews, chapter 6, verse 19 where it says "We have this hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure." The "hope" and "anchor" are one and the same:
 The Lord Jesus Christ.

Surf Photos - Boards3
Wednesday afternoon had been a very windy and rain driven March day, especially in the afternoon.  I had seen Ted out at a local break and had gotten in the water a short time after he got out.  "How was it? I asked.  "Nasty" he replied. He sure had the description right as I later found out.  Wind driven bullets of rain and the basic swell was tough to negotiate because of the wind. Must have caught 3 waves before giving up.  Some times it just isn't worth getting dressed but you sometimes don't know that until you're wet.

The next morning dawned clear and sunny and the wind was gone.  I took my time droving to a local break because the tide wasn't favorable.  When I got there the parking lot was crowded so I knew something was up.  The place started going off all over and we were into a multi-hour session.  Caught some solid waves and rides.  Generally the waves were jacking up on takeoff and average size down the line.  After I was out a short time the swell started to pick up with sets going overhead.  Had to be selective with a few of them! Eventually got out of the water when things diminished somewhat.

All the pictures here are of the afternoon session.

Waves were medium fast at times.
Not sure who this is either.

Got out of the water as the swell subsided thinking about a little late lunch and saw Fred making a move to go back in the water.  Changed into my clothes, warmed up a little and shot maybe 20 minutes worth of film.
. . . nor this surfer either

If you know who any of the surfers are in the above 3 pictures let me know at:
webmaster@quietwaters.org and I'll put names with the pictures.  If anyone was playing hooky, er, "sick" from work then a surfing "handle" (nickname) will do!

Lots of local riders out in this swell and hanging out on the overlook keeping score.
The Cranston Surf Patrol owns this peak.

A little nose ride to finish off the wave.

Heard rumors that one of the men who had been out today had a "4 Ibuprophen" night but that's the nature of this form of exercise: quiet for a week and then a few days straight of exhaustion!  Hope you have enjoyed the pictures.  Got another 23 pictures from this session which will rotate onto the front page as motivation (and flat water) provide opportunity. -Ray
