<03.20.06> Blog comments here have crawled to halt (!) as I have been focusing more on other areas of active ministry (see www.cefri.org > lately. The Quotes page has been updated regularly as we see all kinds of things going on that impact the real world.  Of particular interest recently has been the series of many unpublicized defeats for the ACLU and other organizations who's existence is predicated upon the words "separation of church and state".  There never was any such constitutional separation and is there is none now. It is the product of fertile imaginations who, at distilled essence, are opposed to the Lord Jesus Christ.  I am one of those who are working full time to refute lies such as these - but not so much here in this web site as in the State of Rhode Island as a whole. We are now winning this battle and the tide has turned against those who bring a culture of death and defeatism to our Nation. I would encourage any Christian reading these words to speak up and speak out as the cultural war is fought for the high ground among the next generations.  For example, every public elementary school in Rhode Island (and in the United States) has now been opened to bring the Good News of Christ directly to the children via a "Good News Club®" run by Child Evangelism Fellowship® because of the June 2001 Supreme Court Decision. These are exciting times as God is moving.  Are you in the battle, on the side lines or simply wondering what is happening?
"
But do this with gentleness and respect,  keeping a clear conscience, so that those who speak maliciously against your good behavior in Christ may be ashamed of their slander." 1 Peter 3:15-17 Why will we win? God has clearly said this in Isaiah 5:20 " Woe to those who call evil good and good evil." Let me be plain and direct: "Murdering unborn or just born children is evil" and has been so from the beginning of time. In the Holy Bible, in the Book of Jeremiah, there are 3 passages about the evil of sacrificing "sons and daughters" to the God of the age.  The God of our age is the glorification of self over God. Now that's a centrist and mainstream viewpoint. Praise God.
<10.30.05> I'll be speaking at the Providence Rescue Mission (127 Cranston Street in the West end of Providence, RI) at 5:00 PM on Thursday, November 10, 2005.  Get there early to get a seat.  I'll show you how you can be set free. Open admission.  Free. Stay for dinner afterward.  OK?
Have just returned from 3 months in Missouri (mid-July to mid-October).  Attended (and graduated) from the Children's Ministry Institute
® of Child Evangelism Fellowship® and now am officially "Missionary in Training" to the State of Rhode Island. One CEF® staff missionary to the State of RI and 147,000 children between the ages of 4 and 14. Children (of all ages) hungry for Truth, especially in the Northeastern part of the United States. Jesus Christ said only the truth can set you free and He is right.  Have you been set free or are you still "held in slavery by your fear of death"? <Hebrews 2:15-16 - the Holy Bible> Jesus can set you free if you'll ask Him.  He's alive.
Spoke this AM at the Sunday service of Wood River Baptist Church in Richmond, RI.  Nice church.  They pray a lot there.  Did you know that prayer makes God smile?
<05.11.05>  Hello to our friends at Child Evangelism Fellowship® in Missouri, Rhode Island, Massachusetts, Connecticut, Michigan, as well as in the Philippines, Guatemala, Nicaragua and other countries and states!  A special hello to Chaplains serving with Gospel Rescue Mission (homeless) shelters worldwide.
Just returned from 8 days in North Carolina with CEF.  The previous spring '05 trip to Guatemala (with Frontline Missions and Pastor Dick and 37 others) was also joyful - but in a different way.  It's always good to hear about how God is moving worldwide but the greatest joy is seeing men, women and children finally understand that God is real and will forgive your sin if you will submit your life to Him. To have gone where the name of Jesus is not known is an especially remarkable experience.  Shalom.
<11.10.04>  Welcome to the quarterly update!  What was intended to be several times a week has now turned into several times a year.  For those of you who check in occasionally I hope that you might be encouraged by something you read here.  We have seen many people's lives changed by the power of the Living God these last 3 months. Ray continues preaching the Good News that there is room in God's heart to forgive all the sins of any man, woman or child who will let go of "self worship" and "my rights" and "self glorification" and "pride" and instead place God first in your life.  Not just any god, mind you, but the Living God - the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob; the God of the Old and New Testament; the God of the Bible.
There are some today who try to use the Internet for harm and who hate Christians "without reason".  Jesus said that we (his followers) would be hated "without reason" when we went in the name of Jesus Christ.  A clear example was this last election:  many voters had no idea why they were voting for one candidate - they only knew that they hated the other! The reason was simple - it was a spiritual issue.
There are a very few who oppose this web site on almost a daily basis so how do we respond to this? We pray for you!  Why? Because Jesus said:  "
You have heard that it was said, 'Love your neighbor and hate your enemy.' But I tell you: Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, that you may be sons of your Father in heaven." <Matthew 5:43-45 - the Bible>
Do you know that God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble? The message of the Bible is clear because God has made it clear so that men are without excuse:
Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Come near to God and he will come near to you. Wash your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded. Grieve, mourn and wail. Change your laughter to mourning and your joy to gloom.  Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will lift you up. <James 4:7-10  the Bible>
God is a mighty, merciful and forgiving God - if you will submit your will and spirit to him then he will lift you up in his caring arms.  I <Ray> remain ever optimistic that you
all might experience God's peace today.
<07.25.04>  We've taken another period of time off from this portion of QuietWaters.org due to a busy ministry schedule.  Joan and Ray have just completed a week long Vacation Bible School (VBS) at West Kingston Baptist Church and we're resting!  Many children made decisions to follow Christ and we share the joy of having been used by God (along with many others) who worked very hard for 5 straight days.  We will next be at the Washington County Fair in August for a few days assisting Tom and Sarah of Child Evangelism Fellowship.
Mean while, Ray's work at the Providence Rescue Mission continues tomorrow after an interruption of one week due to VBS.  We also have several friends suffering health problems:  neighbor Joe struggles with a foot infection and our old friend George is in Roger Williams Hospital undergoing chemotherapy.
We pray that you might have times of tranquility and rest this summer as well as unceasing and continual peace and joy as you go about your daily work.
<04.03.04> This Blog has apparently gone Blogless <no updates since 03.04>!  Since the time in Guatemala my priorities changed for a time as I focused upon simple things such as carpeting on the floor; TWO choices for lunch; a computer monitor on my desk and a comfortable chair to sit in. What am I talking about?  The ordinary things that we Americans take completely for granted are almost unheard of luxury for the ordinary third world resident.  We are incredibly rich in every way, including the poorest among us.  For example, you have a medical need and have no money?  Go to a city hospital and they will treat you.  Need food?  There is plenty that is free.  Clothing, food and medical care are readily available in Rhode Island.
What I'm saying is that despite the poverty in many places in America we have a huge safety net for those who will receive that bounty.  That safety net is largely non-existent in third world countries.
I said "changed for a while" because we quickly get comfortable again and our expectations rise to meet a comfort level just beyond where we are at the moment.
   Jesus said
<Luke 6:24-25> "But woe to you who are rich, for you have already received your comfort. Woe to you who are well fed now, for you will go hungry." After being out of the USA for a short time I begin to get a little different perspective on those words . . . and Jesus also said <Luke 12:48> "From everyone who has been given much, much will be demanded; and from the one who has been entrusted with much, much more will be asked."  Those who have ears to hear, let them hear, (including me)!
<03.19.04> Have been on a mission trip to Guatemala and on a short visit with family in Florida over the last 2 weeks so this is the first update since returning last night.  I have gone through times of exhaustion, sickness, joy and the awareness of God's great presence at various times these last two weeks.  God is very actively involved right now in performing miracles, healing, speaking, sustaining and moving among the people He uses and calls into His kingdom.  Is God first in your life?  Have you heard His voice?  Do you desire to be used by Him?  You will seek Him and find Him when you seek Him with all your heart.
<03.04.04> We note the current trends in San Francisco <3,400 homosexual couples granted marriage licenses by mayor Gavin Newsom's direction> and New York <NY gay-marriage mayor charged-19 criminal counts>.  There are laws in these 2 locations which clearly forbid this.  When elected officials ignore the law and do whatever they, in their own judgment, think best, then we are no longer a nation of law and order but a nation of disorder and chaos.

We have ignored for 25 years what our constitution so plainly says about only our legislatures, not our judges, making law.  Now our judges have ignored the law of the land and begun making law themselves.  They have become a law unto themselves and now we are seeing the fruit of those actions. History cries out about what happens to civilizations, countries and their judges which do what is right in their own eyes and do not follow the way of the LORD:
Those civilizations will be completely shattered.

Do you see a man wise in his own eyes? There is more hope for a fool than for him.

<02.26.04, 3:00 PM>  What's a zero between friends?
When a 6% real estate commission gets to be the price of a brand new car <
4000000*.06=$24,000> then we have clear evidence that the "average" house price in RI is simply . . . too high.
<02.21.04 PM>  I see (via cnn.com) there will be a Sunday night <02.22> prime time television show to help us all understand why the "'greatest story ever told' is also one of the greatest mysteries never solved."  The TV disinformation regarding Christ c o n t i n u e s and is accelerating as the showing of "The Passion of the Christ"  draws near.  The goal is simple:  to convince you not to see the movie, or, if you do go, to have you see what is in front of you as simply "one of many controversial possibilities".  Nothing could be further from the Truth. Go see it and decide for yourself.
Christ's resurrection from the dead is not an unsolved issue to the 500 eye witnesses who saw Him. To us who believe their testimony about what they saw, heard and touched - this resurrection is not an "
unsolved mystery".  Instead, it is everlasting joy!
It is a "mystery never solved" only to those who deny the truth.  This does not surprise God since He said: "
To the pure, all things are pure, but to those who are corrupted and do not believe, nothing is pure." <Titus 1:15>
<02.21.04 AM>  The media is doing its best to try to get people not to see Mel Gibson's "Passion" film.  They have gone after his family (dad) and his church but these tactics will not work. The reason is simple: the film is powerful and those who have actually seen it agree the film is a "must see".
The facts speak for themselves:  the number of theaters initially showing the film has increased from 2,000 to 2,800 (a 40 percent increase); the number of theaters in the very liberal Rhode Island area has increased from
one <Jane Pickens - Newport> to six <Apple Valley Cinemas, Showcase Cinemas - Warwick, Showcase Cinemas - Warwick Mall, Showcase Cinemas - Seekonk 1-10, Showcase Cinemas - North Attleboro>.  Churches like New Song <West Warwick> who bought out 2 complete film showings at a local theater "you go and bring a friend" as well as West Kingston Baptist Church <and other Evangelical Minister's Fellowship churches in South County> have played a part in overcoming initial theater management resistance.
   "
In addition to being a masterpiece of film-making and an artistic triumph, "The Passion of the Christ" evoked more deep reflection, sorrow and emotional reaction within me than anything since my wedding, my ordination or the birth of my children. Frankly, I will never be the same. When the film concluded, this "invitation only" gathering of "movers and shakers" in Washington, DC were shaking indeed, but this time from sobbing. I am not sure there was a dry eye in the place. The crowd that had been glad-handing before the film was now eerily silent. No one could speak because words were woefully inadequate. We had experienced a kind of art that is a rarity in life, the kind that makes heaven touch earth." -

<02.19.04>  I think the current Democrat trial balloon to have a possible debate between John Edwards and front-runner John Kerry in Georgia is politically brilliant but is otherwise reprehensible.  We know Kerry will get the nomination so it gives Democrat candidates a pre-agreed opportunity to go on national TV allegedly to "debate" but, in reality, solely to belittle the President of the United States.

I remember an election several years ago in which the challenger (Claudine Schneider) said of the incumbent (Eddie Beard) words to the effect: "My opponent is working very hard and doing the best he can.  I can do better and this is how."  We voted for her <she won>.  No mocking, no slander - just a really cool campaign in a state ( RI ) usually not immune to partisan ranting.

"
Remind the people to be subject to rulers and authorities, to be obedient, to be ready to do whatever is good, to slander no one, to be peaceable and considerate, and to show true humility toward all men." . . . Titus 3:1-2 (the Bible)
<02.16.04>  Forbes Magazine reports that if Mr. Kerry were to defeat George W. Bush and be elected President, Mr. Kerry would be the third richest President ever elected in the USA.  Fascinating stuff, this politics.  Rich Democrats and poor Republicans?  Say it ain't so!  Looks like, despite partisan propaganda to the contrary, Dubya is really the working man's representative . . .
<02.14.04We became grandparents for the first time today at 3:30 PM on this Valentine's Day.  What joy to hold in your arms your children's first born son.
<02.13.04> There is a major Christian Conference <"Congress"> going on this weekend in the Northeast.  We did not go because the cost for two, including a hotel room and food, is around $600.00.  That amount of money will purchase a whole lot of Gospel Tracts, Bibles and food for distribution to the spiritually and physically needy.  I am reminded of the fact that today there are more Bibles, Bible translations, Christian books, conferences, satellite conferences, seminars, summits, organizations, videos, and music than any other time in history yet Biblical literacy among church attendees and pastors is at an all time low.  In many areas "church" has become an alternative entertainment venue.  Many of our "seminaries" and "church teachers" and "pastors" no longer believe what the Bible so clearly says.  The warnings are clear <Galatians 1:8-9 and James 3:1 and Revelation 22:18-19>: proceed at your own peril.  We say "Well, I believe" . . . in opposition to "This is what the LORD says" . . .
My son has it right: "We don't want to go to another conference.  We want to
apply what we've already learned!"  One of the reasons the corporate church in the United States is sick (and the USA is attracting a great number of foreign Christian missionaries) is that we do not read or apply what the Bible so clearly says we are to personally and directly do.  Churches "sub-contract" missions work to others so they don't have to do it themselves.  After all, all these conferences are very time consuming, aren't they?  . . . Jesus said for you (personally - if you are a disciple of Jesus Christ) to "go and make disciples"; he did not say for you to sub-contract 100 % of that great work.
As for me and my house <
Joshua 24:15>, we go to outreach events where there is the opportunity to share the gospel or be part of an evangelistic prayer team.  Matthew 28:19-20.
<02.09.04> This morning's msn news rhapsodizes with the following quote about the June passage of the (dead) planet Venus between Earth and the Sun: "For those who witness the transit of June 8, 2004, there comes the awesome thought that not a single human being remains alive that observed the last transit of Venus. ..."— Joseph Ashbrook, Astronomer

To which I reply:  "
Some put their trust in a planet.  Some trust in a sun.  Some trust in an awesome thought about a planet passing in front of a sun.  But, we will trust in the name of the LORD; in the Living God's one and only Son who created that planet and that sun."

Venus is truly beautiful but Venus can't save you my friend . . . Who can? Answer here or aqui
<02.06.04>  Heard on SRN News this morning that Ohio is the 38th State to pass a "defense of marriage act" defining marriage as being only between "1 man and 1 woman".  It is significant because an amendment to the Constitution of the United States can pass if 38 states agree.  Plus, locally, 3,000 people gathered in Bloomfield, CT a week ago to pray for this same issue and a huge group is going to the Hartford, CT State Capitol this Sunday (02.08.04) - I know of at least 60 buses full of people going, plus others who will make other travel arrangements.  Will Connecticut be the 39th State? In Rhode Island the media pretends and ignores the people.  Thank the Lord for the Internet by which we, the people, can bypass their  newspapers, tv and radio.

<02.04.04>   The full text of the Massachusetts Supreme Court decision regarding gay and lesbian homosexual marriage is located here.    Bible Believing Christians (an interesting redundancy) should read this decision.  There may come a time in Massachusetts (and other places?) when Christians are put into the position of deciding whether to follow the laws of men or the unchanging law of God . . .  In the Book of Acts the decision made by the Apostles is clearly delineated.
<01.28.04>  This latest "email worm" variously called "MyDoom" or "Novarg" currently currently winding its way around the web is really something.  I received 109 emails  - most of them the same file size and almost all were infected.  Recognized a few friends names among the senders.  I deleted them all.  If you sent a prayer request here in the last 24 hours <January 26/27th> then I did not receive it because it was part of a wholesale email deletion.  Send it again    Sorry for the inconvenience!  I'm waiting for Norton to make a fix available . . . Norton . . . are you there?

<12.19.03>  From the book called "Disorder in the American Courts" (actual courtroom testimony):
Q: Doctor, before you performed the autopsy, did you check for a pulse?
A: No.
Q: Did you check for blood pressure?
A: No.
Q: Did you check for breathing?
A: No.
Q: So, then it is possible that the patient was alive when you began the autopsy?
A: No.
Q: How can you be so sure, Doctor?
A: Because his brain was sitting on my desk in a jar.
Q: But could the patient have still been alive, nevertheless?
A: Yes, it is possible that he could have been alive and practicing law somewhere.

<12.18.03> A November poll conducted by the "Pew Research Center for the People and the Press" shows:

  • 63 percent of people who attend Church more than once a week vote Republican

  • 37 percent of regular Church attendees vote Democrat

  • 62 percent of those attending a Church service once a year (or not at all) vote Democrat

  • Black Baptist and Protestant churchgoers, who attend Church regularly, vote nearly 100 percent Democrat.   <Fox News>

I struggle with one principal issue with those who vote Democrat and attend church regularly (or even multiple times a week): the Bible (10 commandments) says "Do not murder." and the Democrat party believes in "Pro-Choice" which, plainly stated, endorses infanticide.  How can this be, my friends?  How can this be?  Read Psalms 106 verses 35-39 carefully, my friends; then write me.  I'm here.

<12.17.03>  "I see the following quote on msn.com today: "Sniffling, achy people suffering from the flu are crowding hospital emergency rooms around the country, creating long waits in the ER and frustrating doctors who can do little more than treat the symptoms."  Many I speak with say: "I went to the Dr. to get an antibiotic for my cold."  The question I on my mind is "Why go to the Dr. for a cold?"  He can't do anything for you.  The meds can't do anything for you.  It makes no sense. It never has. Physicians know this and still prescribe "medication".  Even "flu shots" are inconclusive.  A buddy of mine, sick Lou, had the flu shot and I didn't.  He has the flu; I don't.  Now I understand "junk science" and "sampling size" but the base message is clear: physicians have mislead the public for years by prescriptions that don't work and so they appropriately must to deal with the monster (see "frustration" above) they themselves have created.

If you have a cold. I pray you would soon feel better.  As for the meds your Dr. gave you . . . well . . . say something once, why say it again?  Remember, I could be wrong . . . but your Dr. will tell you the same thing.  Don't believe me?  Ask him!
End of rant.   Hmmm. . . why is my nose running? Uh, oh.  Time to get to the Dr!

It is interesting that Diversity is inclusive of Judaism and Islam but not Christianity.  The issue of "separation of church and state" is invariably given as an explanation.  It is clear that those who give this rationale intuitively understand, by their actions, that Christianity represents the true Church in their minds.  If Christianity were not the true Church then Judaism and/or Islam would also be excluded from the schools . . .
<12.04.03>  Flu season is upon us.  6,306 confirmed cases in Colorado as of 12.03.03, up from 3,957 cases a week earlier.  The Colorado Dept. of Public Health advises the effective preventative combination of:
  • Clean hands often with soap and water or with an alcohol-based hand cleaner.

  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth.

<11.28.03>  Joan and I met so many old friends at the Providence Rescue Mission yesterday (Thanksgiving  Day).  In the last week many men and women have begun a new walk with God; experiencing His peace, which goes beyond all earthly understanding, for the first time.  Many have left their deep pain, anger, and hurt at the foot of the Cross.  They have turned from being a "victim" to being victors in Christ because everyone born of God overcomes the world.  God has said: "I love those who love me, and those who seek me find me."

Christianity is life changing for one reason:
Jesus Christ, God's one and only Son, is alive . . .

<11.10.03>  Classified Intelligence:  On the front page of www.ZDNet.com tonight there is an article titled "You've been hacked.  What to do in the first five minutes".  Unfortunately, the video Webcast answer linked to that question is 54 minutes and 37 seconds long.  Apparently, you lose . . .
<11.04.03>  I just became aware of the web site www.boycottcbs.com which was created to respond to the CBS show about ex-President Reagan and his wife Nancy.  Looks like the show will not be aired during the fall season.
I can remember when news anchors and the "major" networks in America were respected and believed.  I can remember loving President John F. Kennedy as a child and having absolutely no idea what political party he was part of.  Now the "little 3" networks use their platform for political purposes and Truth has perished in the public square.
As for me and my house , we stopped watching CBS, NBC and ABC about 4 years ago.  Simply pulled the plug on commercial TV.  All gone.  We opted for Sky Angel Satellite at about $10.00 a month (1/4th the cost of other services).  News and programming largely without spin and simply no obscenity, immorality or Christian bashing; many positive stories the others refuse to cover.  Cool.  Haven't looked back; no regrets.
<10.13.03>  Homelessness is the topic this noon time.  The Providence Rescue Mission in the West end of Providence in particular.  Do you have any idea how many men, women and children in Providence (and all of Rhode Island) are in desperate need right now with no one to help them?  Just yesterday I spoke with:
  • a man a half hour before sun set who was wearing short sleeves and had no coat to wear.
  • a woman who had no place to stay that night and  continued

I have one comment.  I believe: "
If anyone is ashamed of me and my words in this adulterous and sinful generation, the Son of Man will be ashamed of him when he comes in his Father's glory with the holy angels."
